Watchin' paint dry

I recently heard a song that started me thinking about apathy. The song; “waiting for the world to change” by John Mayer, is a very catchy tune with some very thought provoking lyrics. But I wonder is this the time to be “waiting”? I hope Mr. Mayer’s intent is to show the absurdness of being apathetic. Here we sit in the middle of a war that is a mess, the Bush administration shredding the constitution and the Michigan GOP screwing over this and future generations by playing games with the infrastructure of the state. In a time when the resolution of these issues will have repercussions for decades, if not longer, we simply cannot afford to “wait”. I don’t mean to lay the blame at John Mayer’s feet!

The song brings a couple of interesting points to light. The lyrics state “now we see everything that's going wrong/ with the world and those who lead it/ we just feel like we don't have the means/ to rise above and beat it/ so we keep waiting/ waiting on the world to change”. I have a problem with this thought process, seeing something that is wrong and just giving up before you even try to fix it is plain and simple bulls@#%. I could dissect virtually every section of the song but I will only look at one more verse. “one day our generation/ is gonna rule the population/ so we keep on waiting/ waiting on the world to change”. If you sit on your ass and wait for the world to change it never will!! If you sit on your ass and wait for the world to change you won’t rule anything!!! Obviously this song doesn’t speak for everybody out there; Liberal Lucy wrote a great call to action the other day, read it here. There are millions of examples of people doing what they can to change the world in a positive way, most of us probably do little things everyday that we don’t even think about (recycle, carpool, blog, etc.). Again I don’t want to blame John Mayer for the ills of society but this type of thought process bothers me. Idly sitting by, while so many things are going wrong in the world and “waiting” for them to rectify themselves is not the answer.

I am not sure what world you are living in that should be changed.

1) Last time I read the news the checks and balances are still working. Congress cannot run the war and the President cannot run the Congress.
2) War is a mess, but what war was not a mess. This country has been in one war or another for almost 120 years of its young history.
3) Congress can end the war any time they want to by refusing to fund the war. Of course there are ramifications like a lot of home state war industries would suddenly shut down in Democratic regions causing a Tsunami recession. As a result, our soldiers are left lingering from day to day in the desert hoping they won’t die in some battle because Congress fears losing face by stifling the economy in their home states. Hopefully, some day Congress will take time to stop counting the dead soldiers and start honoring the live sholders by bringing them home as heroes.
4) Ironically Congress had the guts to get this country into war, but Congress does not have the cuts to end the war. All Congress does is talk-talk-talk with 535 Congressmen running around the barnyard of Washington squawking and crowing.
5) The infrastructure in Michigan is not the problem. Taxes and wages are the problem. We are overpaying both the government and industry union workers more than any other state. If the infrastructure was the problem, then the auto industry would not be moving into Mississippi, Georgia, or Texas where there is very little if any infrastructure. As for education, Michigan has the best educated industrial employees in the world, but transplant and domestic auto suppliers and manufacturers have elected to open schools and train the rural southern workers themselves. So why throw more tax dollars down the drain on infrastructure.
6) Most Michiganders in favor of raising taxes are employees of the government and recipients of Michigan benefits – which one are you?
7) There is another saying; we may be better off leaving well enough alone. For example in 1972 the U.S. sent 38 ships to the North Pole to study and stop global freezing due to humans burning fossil fuels. Well per Al gore, they must have succeeded, now we have global warming due to burning fossil fuels.
Have a nice blog.

Isn’t it sad that anonymous here is so ashamed of the crap he wrote he is afraid to take ownership of it and identify himself. If I wrote that load of misinformation I would posts anonymously, too

Anonymous is not only chicken, but wrong too!

"Congress cannot run the war and the President cannot run the Congress."

This President can't run anything. He is entirely incompetent. And if you actually read the Constitution, you would know that Congress has significantly MORE war powers than the President. Congress is in charge of the military, the President has no more authority than a General.

"This country has been in one war or another for almost 120 years of its young history."

We've also had bank robbers for as long as we've had banks. That doesn't make it right.

"our soldiers are left lingering from day to day in the desert hoping they won’t die in some battle because Congress fears losing face by stifling the economy in their home states."

You think that is the justification for continuing the war? That is crazy. Saul Anuzis, is this you?

Comment #4 doesn't even warrant a response.

"The infrastructure in Michigan is not the problem. Taxes and wages are the problem."

Whatever you do, don't let facts get in the way of your argument. Try google. Look for the states with the highest tax rates and the highest wages. You will see their economies are booming.

Republicrat control of this state under Engler created this mess and it will take another 8 years to get out of it -- and that assumes we get some Republicrats in the House and Senate with IQ's over 45.

"Global freezing". Tell you what, you go back to 1972 and worry about global freezing. Like most right wingers, you want to turn back the clock on this country and make into what it once was anyways -- an artic region covered in ice.

And anonymous, if you have trouble understanding any of this, just try reading slowly and pronoucing the words out loud.

Have a nice day.
